Be Warned… Think Twice Before You Post!
It’s pretty incredible that in these days of social media and information sharing that there are still victims of the “oops!” factor. As musicians it’s imperative that you consider how, what and when you post your opinions and personal information online.
True enough sharing information with your fans is essential to your survival and can be a welcome addition to your music marketing efforts as well as being a great booster for your online music sales… the caveat is that you also run the risk of over sharing.
What if your fans just don’t agree with your political beliefs. Let’s face it, not everyone is an Obama fan. Are you Jewish, Catholic or Muslim? Does it matter?
It might matter to your loving customers and that can mean dollar figures dropping off of your bottom line.
Don’t get me wrong… if you really aren’t in this music business to make a living – and by that I mean enough cash to feed yourself and perhaps your family – then don’t pay any mind to my little rant. But if music is your primary source of income this can and should be a serious marketing factor that you consider heavily…
Of course this isn’t news to most of you but it is something that we all should seriously consider heavily as we happily Facebook, Twitter and Myspace our way through life as musicians.
I was just flipping around the web and visiting some of my favorite blogs when I came across a post that addressed these issues and thought I’d add my two cents. If you want to get the full scoop I suggest you check out the folks perspective on posting your opinions online at The Music Promotion Blog.
Happy socializing,
Duss Rodgers
