Resolutions or… Action Plans?
It’s 3 days into the new year and I’m sure you’ve all been trying to stick to those resolutions that everyone puts into action each and every year… but is it our new years resolution that bring us the success and happiness we strive to find or the day to day actions and the smaller weekly plans we create on a regular?
If you’re anything like me, you’re opting in for day to day actions. It’s well known that those who fail to plan… plan to fail. Planning is something you need to take care of on a weekly if not daily basis. Most successful entrepreneurs (yes that’s you too) map out their yearly, monthly, weekly and daily action plans. Yes. They know exactly what their future career goals are and how they’re going to get there well in advance…
So what does this have to do with me you ask? Well are you taking care of your career every day? Do you do at least one thing to further your music business goals daily. If not… you need to change that – and fast!
You see it’s not the big 3 times a year grandiose actions that move you ahead in the music game. It’s the day to day phone calls to your music network contacts, your manager, publicists and bands you’ve been trying to tour with that will put you ahead in your career.
If any of this is new to you then get out your notebooks and be sure to pencil this in… I’m waiting so go and do it now! That’s right. This is what it takes to find success. Doing the things that others around you won’t do is what will take you to the next level in the music business.
Yes I know it hinders the creative process and you just don’t want to take time out to plan out your life… you like to “let it happen”. Well guess what my friend, if you’re not doing these absolutely essential tasks… you’re not going to get the big rewards that come with them.
The bottom line is the choice is yours. You can choose to take action and plan out your life or drift like wood in the sea of hopes and dreams… but don’t expect success to come up to you in a lifeboat and drag you by the hand to the big stage. It just doesn’t work like that my friend. Careers are built from the ground up with hard work, perseverance, discipline and most importantly… with a plan!
