You REALLY Need To Insure Yourself and Your Gear!

It’s unfortunate that there exist cowardly lowlifes in the world who live to feed like scum off of the backs of others but that my friends this is the reality of life. There will always be those who choose to make our lives miserable to better theirs…

Now that I’ve got that off of my chest I just wanted to talk a little bit about your musical gear, your health and insurance. If you don’t have insurance you really should think about getting some. I know it might seem like an expense that you feel you can’t afford today, but if not today then when?

Do you really think it’s wise to only consider insurance after someone breaks into your van and robs you of all your gear?

I can hear the chorus of “Oh that’ll never happen to me!” ringing out right now. But believe me it’s not really a matter of if you’re going to need that insurance safety blanket but more of a when.

I was recently reading a post over on the Canadian Musician blog and there was an unfortunate incident that happened to a band touring in Montreal. Now this isn’t a slur on Montreal – it could have been New York, Toronto, Boston, London or wherever one might tour – but the thieves in this particular incident broke into their van and stole absolutely everything.

They had no money and no way to repair the damages or replace the gear. What would you do in a situation like this? If you had insurance you’d at least have someone to call and you’d be able to get yourself back on your feet. Worse yet what if it was an accident and someone was hurt? Without insurance could you pay the medical bills if you were touring in a different country?

Let’s face it life isn’t perfect. If it were I wouldn’t need to open your eyes to situations like this. I know it sucks and it’s costly but hey… think of the alternatives. Who wants to be stuck in a foreign country or city with no means of getting to your next gig and no gear to even play. Busking would be out of the question without your guitar…

So before you go on your next tour, think about getting yourself some insurance. You’ll feel better and if anything goes wrong… you’ll be ahead of the game.

To your safety and your success,

Duss Rodgers
